Paris – Joseph Francis Dillon, formerly of Oxford, died March 23, 2004, at Market Square Health Care Center in South Paris. He was born Nov. 17, 1918, in Westbrook, to Tina Schumack. He was soon adopted by the Dillon’s of Gardiner, where he attended school. Joe worked in local shoe factories until retiring. He enjoyed hunting and for many years spent vacations camping in northern Maine. After his retirement, he fulfilled a life long dream to own a racehorse. Through the years he spent many happy hours at Kilgore’s Stables caring for and exercising not only his horses but also many others. Along with his late wife, Pat, he immensely enjoyed attending horse races and was well known around the tracks. He was also a fan of word puzzles and old western movies. Joe is survived by daughters, Carolyn Dunbar of Southwest Harbor, Janice Kincaid of Harbor Beach, Fla., Lucille Haynes of Northeast Harbor, and Coleene Moody of Gardiner; sons, Joseph Jr. of Satellite Beach, Fla., Charles of Tremont, and Wayne of Brownville; 21 grandchildren; 34 great-grand-children; and one great-great-grandson, Dillon Joseph. He is also survived by a special stepdaughter, Sherri Stretton; and two stepsons, Larry and Ben. He will be missed by his furry pal, Rascal the cat. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 32 years, Patricia; a daughter, Marie; and his adoptive parents. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, 230 Main St., Norway.
