BANGOR – James “Jim” D. MacArthur Jr., 56, died Jan. 12, 2004, in Bangor. He was born Aug. 10, 1947, in Island Falls, the son of James D. Sr. and Viona V. (Barker) MacArthur. Jim graduated from Patten Academy in 1965, and went on to graduate from Husson College with a B.S. Degree in Accounting in 1969. In 1969, Jim went to work for Chester M. Kearney and Company as a staff accountant and in 1972 became a certified public accountant. In 1977, Jim decided to open his own firm called James D. MacArthur CPA, Broadway, Bangor. Jim served on the planning board for the City of Bangor for several years and was a member of the Brewer Kiwanis Club for many years. It is hard to express the generous spirit and heart that Jim had, and the depth of his humanity to people that he knew and didn’t know. He will be deeply missed as a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of seven years, Elizabeth (MacDonald) Richardson; a son, James “Jay” D. MacArthur III of Brewer; brothers and sisters, Peg Coolong and husband, James, of Houlton, Stephen MacArthur and wife, Charlotte, of Mattawamkeag, Gwen Main and husband, Stephen, of Tucson, Ariz., Neda Coombes and husband, Roy, of Manchester, Conn., Diana Hardy and husband, Roger, of Smyrna Falls, David MacArthur and wife, Cathy, of Henderson, Nev.; many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to meet with the family 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, with the Rev. Dr. Rex Garrett, director of Chaplaincy Services at EMMC, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor, following the services.
