OLD TOWN – James L. Pierce, 78, died Sept. 28, 2005, at home with his family. He was born Sept. 19, 1927, in Whiting, the son of Leon and Berniece Pierce. He grew up in Bar Harbor, and served in the Coast Guard during World War II. He worked for General Adjusters Bureau from 1956 until 1959 when he moved to Houlton to open the Maine Bonding and Casualty Company office. He worked in that office until 1979 when he began working for Northeast Insurance Company, where he worked until his retirement in 1995. Since his retirement he had been an avid golfer and had enjoyed being the patriarch of his very large and loving family. Jim is survived by the love of his life, Jean Dunham Pierce, whom he married Aug. 31, 1948 and his loving family; daughter, Shelley Packard and significant other, Charles Cirame; daughter, Jami Lee Brown and husband, Alan; grandchildren, Brian Currie Jr. and wife, Terri, Marnie Wirta and husband, Mark, Barry Currie and wife, Sandi, Ryan Packard and wife, Kaori, Bart Currie and wife, Janet, Erich Packard and fianc?e, Meagan Franck, Hannah Hodsdon and husband, Fred and Meghan Packard and fianc?, Kevin Moore; great-grandchildren, David Parent, Michelle Parent, Jennifer Parent, Brandon Currie, Kendra Currie, Kiersten Currie, Broderick Hodsdon, Haidee Hodsdon, Sophia Wirta, David Packard, Aidan Currie, Alexander Wirta and Taebria Currie; and one great-great-grand-child, Amy Elizabeth Gallant. He is also survived by his brother, David Pierce and wife, Connie; and his sister, Lois Fournier. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, David L. Packard. A service of remembrance will be held 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at. Brookings-Smith Old Town Chapel, 205 Main St., Old Town. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
