ELLSWORTH – James M. “Jimmy” Faulkner, 86, who was a precious member of the Faulkner and Hotchkiss families of Maine and Connecticut, passed away New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, 2008, at Colliers Rehab. and Living Center, Ellsworth. He was born June 8, 1921, in Augusta, to George A. and Mildred (Jordan) Faulkner. As a small child, the family moved to Winter Harbor to be near his mother’s family, the Jordans, and as a teenager he moved to Ellsworth, where he attended and graduated from Ellsworth High School. Blessed with loving parents, a brother and sister, Jimmy, although afflicted with cerebral palsy, was a happy and friendly person, known to many in the community. After he graduated from high school, Jimmy, could be found delivering papers and working at local churches and schools. He planted a large garden and spent countless hours working in it with his father. Jimmy was very proud of all his nephews and nieces, and the walls in his home were covered with pictures of them. A great friend to all, he created and nourished many wonderful friendships. After his family and friends, he enjoyed all sports and rarely missed a Red Sox and Patriots game. He was fortunate to have friends who took him to both area and University of Maine sporting events. However, those who knew him well, knew that there was nothing Jimmy enjoyed more than ice cream. To all who knew him, Jimmy was a courageous, patient, kind and dignified man. Through his example, his family and friends were taught the importance of each and every person regard-less of handicap. He was a dear gift to his family and friends and they were fortunate to have them in their lives. Jimmy Faulkner lost his beloved brother, Dr. George A. Faulkner Jr. this past April; his brother-in-law, Alan Hotchkiss; and his nephew, Peter, in 2005. He is survived by his sister, Joyce Faulkner Hotchkiss of Woodbridge, Conn.; his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Davis Faulkner of Cape Porpoise; nephews, Derek Hotchkiss and his wife, Kerrigan, of Woodbridge, Conn., George Faulkner III and his wife, Deborah, of Jackson, Dr. James Faulkner and his wife, Nancy, of Cape Porpoise, Richard Faulkner and his wife, Suzanne, of Sanford and John Faulkner and his wife, Jane, of Sanford; nieces, Sara J. Hotchkiss of Waldoboro, Deborah Hotchkiss Uva of Gray, Jane E. Faulkner of Cape Porpoise and Joanne Faulkner Houston of Sanford; 16 great-nephews and great-nieces and two great-great-nephews. The Faulkner and Hotchkiss families thank those in the Collier’s and Ells-worth community for the wonderful friendship and care given to their brother and uncle. In the spring a memorial reception will be held in Ellsworth and interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Cherryfield. Arrangements by Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth.
