ETNA – James N. Clifford, 80, died July 23, 2007, at his residence after a long illness. He was born Feb. 17, 1927, in New Castle, the son of Preston and Angela (Hall) Clifford. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. For most of his working life, James was employed as a heavy equipment operator for local construction companies, including Cianbro, Pittsfield. Jim is survived by a son, James Clifford Jr. of Portland; his life companion of 33 years, Beatrice Duplisea of Etna; several cousins and many friends. Graveside services will be conducted noon Thursday, July 26, at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, the new cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta, with Pastor Al Worden officiating. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held 3 p.m. Thursday at his residence, 1207 Stage Road, Etna, after the services at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery.
