BAR HARBOR – James Thomas Smith, 83, died Jan. 2, 2005, in Bar Harbor. He was born May 21, 1921, in New Haven, Conn., the son of John and Alice Smith. James was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Force. He was a 1943 graduate of the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. James spent many years working for Connecticut Blue Cross and retired as the Comptroller for the corporation. He enjoyed following the local fire departments, was an avid Red Sox fan and was a member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Bar Harbor. James is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Barbara (Regan) Smith; two sons, James M. Smith and wife, Mary, of San Francisco, Calif. and Philip S. Smith and wife, Marie, of Cornwall On Hudson, N.Y.; one daughter, Rosemary Cardenas and husband, Kenneth, of San Antonio, Texas; one brother, John E. Smith; one sister, Rita Jordan, both of New Haven, Conn. and seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his sister, Alice Linnane. Services of remembrance will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Bar Harbor, with Fr. John O’Hara celebrant. A memorial service and interment will be held in the spring at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Bar Harbor.
