MILFORD and NORTHPORT, Fla. – James W. “Jim” Mitchell, 64, passed away peacefully Jan. 10, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Dec. 10, 1942, in Bangor, the son of Charles and Irene (Parent) Mitchell. Jim retired from the University of Maine in 1996, after 33 years of service. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He loved to fish, hunt and have family barbecues and picnics. He will be remembered for his kindness and willingness to help anyone in need, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Dawnitta of Milford; seven children, Debra Mitchell of Brewer, James and his wife, Gail, of Milford, John of Brewer, Melanie Kimball and her husband, Troy, of Old Town, Melissa Lavoie and her fiance, Joseph Reinzo, of Greenfield, Theodore Arnold and Lexi Mitchell of Milford; 11 grandchildren, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Richard and Theola Dawes of Old Town; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Richard Dawes Jr. of East Corinth, Cheryl Houston and her husband, Alan, of Sarasota, Fla., Alice McKay and her husband, Kevin, of Milford, Lisa Fogg and her husband, Sean, of Hermon and Lori Paull and her husband, Tom, of Venice, Fla. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Edward Mitchell; and a sister, Carle Mitchell. He will be remembered by special friends, Ernie Lary, Frank Greenleaf, Kevin McKay, Dick Plourde and Terry Day. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at the United Baptist Church, 86 Middle St., Old Town, with the Rev. Scott Benner officiating. A small reception will be held at the church immediately after the service.
