HERMON and MILFORD Jane B. Burgess, 98, died peacefully March 6, 2004 at a Bangor healthcare facility. She was born Aug. 1, 1905, in Sprignburn, Glasgow, Scotland, a daughter Alexander and Mary (Thomson) Anderson. She moved to New Jersey in 1929, and married Joshua Burgess in October 1929 in Elizabeth, N.J. They moved to Maine in 1951. Jane was a resident of Milford for many years. Due to failing health she moved to Hermon for 12 years and lived with her son and daughter-in-law, Ross and Darlene Burgess. She was employed by the University of Maine at Orono for 15 years, retiring at the age of 65. Jane enjoyed reading, gardening, crocheting and especially spending time with her family. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Margaret McHale of Portland; a sister-in-law, Florence Burgess of Moncton, New Brunswick; daughters-in-law, Gloria Burgess of Milford, and Darlene Burgess of Hermon; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and step-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Joshua; two sons, Tom and Ross Burgess. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where a funeral service will be conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Dr. Rex Garrett, Director of Chaplaincy Services, EMMC, officiating. Spring interment will be at Lawndale Cemetery, Old Town.
