ELLSWORTH – Jane Hathaway Widdows, died Jan. 6, 2008, at her home. Jane was born in Bangor, the daughter of Reginald and Marion (Sawyer) Hathaway of Columbia Falls. Jane married Robert Widdows in 1966. In 1967, she graduated from Washington State College, Machias, and taught school in various towns in Maine. She and her husband also lived and worked in Africa, where Bob was raised before coming to the U.S. as a student. One of their many ventures was a donut shop in Harare, Zimbabwe. Jane lived with multiple sclerosis for the last 33 years of her life. She is survived by her husband and caregiver of 41 years, Robert of Ellsworth; sisters, Mary Alley and husband, Arthur, of Lamoine, and Susan Hathaway of York. Jane will be missed by her in-laws, Alfred Widdows and wife, Joyce, of Harare, Zimbabwe, William Widdows and wife, Beulah, of Englewood, Fla., Joyce Barquinha and husband, Jack, of Plano, Texas; nieces, nephews and cousins; and her special canine friends, Dallas and Tex. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Epping Cemetery, Columbia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jane’s memory may be made to The Ark Animal Shelter, P.O.
