LINCOLN – Janet “Jennie” T. MacKay, 84, wife of Roderick A. MacKay, died July 13, 2007, at a Lincoln health care facility. She was born May 13, 1923, in Presque Isle, the daughter of Henry Burt and Leversa (Bartley) Taylor. Jennie attended Westfield public schools, graduating in 1940 from Aroostook Central Institute, Mars Hill, as a member of the honor society. She was enrolled at Aroostook State Normal School from 1940 to 1942 and earned a bachelor’s degree in English grammar from the University of Maine. Jennie’s teaching career was spent in the towns of Robinson, Limestone and Presque Isle, between 1942-1952; then from 1964 until retirement, she taught in Chester, Houlton, Winn and Lee. She had been a member of the Maine Teachers Association and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was an avid reader, who collected hundreds of books during her lifetime. Jennie enjoyed crafts and was an enthusiastic quilt maker. In addition to her husband, Rod, she is survived by a son, Roger I. MacKay of Lincoln; a daughter, Ann Snowman and her husband, Jeffery, of State College, Pa.; two grandchildren, Thomas Snowman of State College, Pa., and Jacqueline Snowman of New Jersey; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Rollins of Oregon, Phyllis MacKay of West Springfield, Mass., Kathryn Eames of Cape Elizabeth, Blake MacKay and wife, Rachel, of Bethel and Maxine Corbett and her husband, William, of Lincoln; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Louise (Taylor) Brown; sisters-in-law, Harriet Ranslow and Barbara Lunquist; and brother-in-law, Bruce MacKay. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Bruce Young officiating.
