VACAVILLE, Calif. – Janet Pelkey Fraser, affectionately known as Granny, 91, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007, with her family by her side at Vacaville Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center, California. Janet was born May 26, 1916, in Mapleton, the seventh of eight children born to Frank and Annie Pelkey. She married Earl Fraser, Oct. 15, 1939, and moved to Easton, where she lived on a 300-acre potato farm and raised two children. She was a tireless homemaker who spent her days washing, cleaning and baking. Summers were spent at the camp on Madawaska Lake, where Janet took the boat out fishing, built campfires and swam in the lake. She loved to entertain family and friends on the weekends. Janet and Earl retired to Fairfield, Calif. in 1975, where she lived for 30 years and became a member of First Baptist Church. She kept herself busy tending her roses and flower gardens, feeding the birds, baking homemade bread and desserts, and crocheting afghans. She loved to take walks, entertain visitors and spend time with her daughter and grandchildren. Janet’s fondest memories were of her family and her beloved Maine. She enjoyed reading jokes, playing her organ and always had a remedy “for what ailed you.” She was quick-witted, full of sass and loved us all through her scrumptious homemade meals. She spent the last two years of her life at Vacaville Convalescent and Rehabilatation Center, where she entertained the staff with her stories and funny sayings. Janet is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Adrian and Nicole Fraser of Easton; sister, Lois Brayall of Caribou; son-in-law, Ken Nicholas; grand-daughters, Elisabeth and Kathryn Nicholas of Fairfield, Calif.; grandsons, Kenneth Nicholas of Rohnert Park, Calif., and Joshua Fraser of Presque Isle; and great-grandsons, Kenneth III and Giovanni Nicholas of Woodland, Calif. Janet was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Earl Fraser; her daughter, Paula Nicholas; and her siblings, Harold, Hazel, Myrtle, Verna, Elizabeth and Eunice. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, July 6, at the Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery, where Janet will be laid to rest with her husband. She will be deeply missed.
