ELLSWORTH – Janice Ellen Holmes, 64, died after an extended illness July 5, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Dec. 13, 1940, the daughter of Ferdinand and Francis Ellen (McAllister) Leavitt. Jan graduated from Old Town High School. She supported the mission of St. Joseph Hospital and the Black House-Woodlawn Museum in Ellsworth. She worked for many years at Day’s Jewelry in Old Town and retired from James River Corporation as an executive secretary in senior management. In 1990, she moved to Massachusetts and she traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe in support of her husband’s business activities. In 1997, they returned to their native Maine where she provided leadership in the design of her dream home on 28 Acre Island at Branch Lake which she later named “Isle Wood.” She is survived by her loving husband of 15 years, Jack Holmes of Ellsworth; a son, Steven Baillargeon and wife, Stephanie, of Old Town; a daughter, Katherine Gifford and husband, Joseph, of Milford; stepchildren, Jody Dion and husband, Ken, of Grafton, Mass., Jill Nagle and husband, David, of East Longmeadow, Mass.; grandchildren, Molly, Lucas, Amanda, Tyler, Matthew, Justin, Jordan, McKenzie, Peter, Andrew, and Emily; stepgrandchildren, Jana, Jessica and Jeremy. Funeral services will be private for the family Saturday, July 9, 2005. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
