HAMPDEN – Janice Maxine (Goodwin) Baker, 90, passed away July 7, 2007, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born April 16, 1917, in Bangor, the daughter of Guy Bion and Inez (Perkins) Goodwin. Janice was a lifelong resident of Hampden and was a graduate of Hampden Academy, Class of 1936. She was a secretary and receptionist for Promis Clinic, Hampden, for many years. Janice enjoyed family gatherings, spending time with her longtime companion, James Perkins, outings with her special friend and “buddy,” Honora Gerry, knitting, crocheting and cooking, but her passion was going to dances, as Janice would say, “I would rather dance than eat.” Janice will be remembered as a loving mother, “nana,” sister, aunt and good friend. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David Goodwin Baker and Marie of Hampden; a special daughter, Judith Ann Baker of Bangor; one sister, Kathryn Goetz and her husband, Carroll, of Leavittown, Penn.; two grandchildren, Michele Baker-Lands of Arundel and Michael Baker of Hamdpden; five great-grand-children, Tori, Colby, Chelsea, Chloe and Camden; special brother-in-law, Reginald Clark and his wife, Nancy, of Hampden; special nieces, especially, Pauline Levesque and Sandra Boynton, nephews, cousins; special friend, Honora Gerry; and the granddaughters of James Perkins, Patty Washburn and Pam Preble. She was predeceased by two sisters, Pauline Clark and Dorothy Irvine; a brother, Albert Goodwin; her longtime companion, James Perkins; and lifelong friend, Charlotte Foster. A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, with the Rev. Dr. Deborah M. Jenks, pastor of the Hampden Congregational Church, officiating. A time of visitation will be 12:30 p.m. until the time of service Saturday. Interment will be at Locust Grove Cemetery, Hampden.
