PROSPECT – William “Bill” R. Swift Sr., 76, passed away July 6, 2007, surrounded by his loving family at his home, after long battle with diabetes. He was born March 18, 1931, in Rockland, the son of Fred and Annette (Shute) Swift. Bill worked at the paper mill in Bucksport or 35 years and was a veteran of the Korean War. Bill was a great dad, his kids were his life. He enjoyed long walks, rides in his car, working on his lawn mower and family gatherings. He was quite a jokester, as he had a road named after him, Poor Bills Drive. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Madeline (Hall) Swift; four daughters, Linda Mitchell and partner, Tom Tracey, of Hampden, Jo Colson of Arizona, Althea and her husband, Tom Grover, of Winterport and Donna and her husband, Glen Bennett, of Prospect; two sons, Fred and his wife, Diane Swift, of Prospect and Bill Swift of Prospect; sisters and brothers-in-laws, Jerry and Sonny Parker of Frankfort, Janice and Dwight Moody of Prospect, Judy Pickering and partner, Bob Moher, of New Hampshire, and Cathy and Stewart Parker of Prospect; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grand-children, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and a grandson, Ronnie Mitchell. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday at Young Funeral Home, 31 West Main St., Searsport, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, with the Pastor Nick Migliacci officiating. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Prospect. Donations in his memory may be made to the Prospect Community Center, Prospect, ME 04981.
