BUCKSPORT and MEDWAY Janice Irene (Powers) Hunt, 63, devoted wife, sister, mom, and grandmother, died unexpectedly May 26, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Nov. 7, 1940, in Medway, the daughter of Richard and Lillian (Thompson) Powers. Janice was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, knitting, and collecting angels. Family was extremely important to Janice, her mother died in 1958 and Janice cared for her father and siblings. Janice loved family gatherings each Sunday with her children and her grandchildren, and especially enjoyed the last few years she spent with Vernon in semi-retirement. Janice was a devoted employee at Hannaford Supermarket, Brewer for 12 years, which she enjoyed and took pride in her work there. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Vernon Hunt of Bucksport; one son, V. Scott Hunt and wife, Michelle, of Bucksport; three daughters, Pamela Grindle and husband, Stewart, of Orland, Paulette Saunders and husband, Russell, of Bucksport, and Susan Chaffee and husband, Rod, of Orrington; four grandchildren, Jayson Grindle, Alex Chaffee, Emily Hunt, and Katelin Janice Saunders; three stepgrandchildren, Brent and Christopher Chaffee, and Amanda Saunders; three brothers, Wayne Powers and wife, Anita, James Powers and wife, Gloria, all of Medway, and Richard Powers and wife, Linda, of Orrington; five sisters, June Cox, Mildred Stanley, Wilena Fiske and husband, Richard, all of Medway, Emma Ireland of Chester, and Colleen Grantham of East Millinocket; one brother-in-law, Paul Hunt and wife, Mary, of Bucksport; three sisters-in-law, Justine Jeskey and husband, John, of Orrington, Sandra Ackley and husband, Richard, of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Sherry Snyder and husband, Harold, of Wake Forest, N.C.; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. Janice was predeceased by her mother in 1958; her father in 1993; two sisters, Doreen McLaughlin in 1985, and Betsy Ambrose in 1999. Visitation for family and friends will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 28, 2004, at the Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, with Janice’s brother-in-law, Rev. Harold Snyder officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Bucksport. Immediately following the interment a gathering of conversation and refreshment will be held at the Edward K.
