BANGOR and FARMINGTON – Janice R. Durrell, 79, formerly of Farmington, died May 12, 2006, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Bangor. She joins her husband of 52 years, Carl H. Durrell. She was born Oct. 20, 1926, in South Paris, the daughter of Charles and Ethel (Young) Ripley. Janice was a graduate of South Paris High School and Farmington State Teachers College (U.M.F.). In 1948 she married Carl Durrell in South Paris. They made their home in Farmington. Janice was employed by the U.S. Extension Service, a newspaper photographer and reporter for the Portland Press Herald and the Waterville Sentinel (Gannet Publishing) often producing A.P. and U.P.S bylines. She finished her career as a bank employee. Janice enjoyed her community and was a member of various organizations, including 48 consecutive years as a member of the Roderick Crosby American Legion Auxiliary. She loved playing cards, handcrafts, bowling and spending time with family and friends, especially fishing. Janice is survived by three sisters, Frances Rolfe of South Paris, Rene and Herbert Krabish, of Ghent, N.Y., Shirley and Robert Riddle, of Oil City, Pa.; and one brother, Richard Ripley, of South Paris; two children, Kathy Durrell Caliendo and her husband, David, of Hampden, and Mark Durrell and his wife, Beth, of Lisbon Falls; three adored granddaughters, Heather Durrell and Jay Kramarz, Hillary Durrell and Jennifer Caliendo; and one great-grandchild, Selena, several caring in-laws, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews and the loving staff of “B” Unit of the Maine Veterans’ Home.
