JEAN BAUMANN PENOBSCOT – Jean Baumann, 84, died July 1, 2004, at a Penobscot nursing home. She was born Dec. 27, 1919, in Elizabeth, N.J., the daughter of Walter and Jane McLachlan. Jean was trained and worked as a cosmetologist. She owned her own beauty shop in Elizabeth until she gave it up in order to raise a family. She married Fred Baumann in 1948, and they had three children. Jean lived most of her life in Elizabeth, N.J. She moved to Bath, Pa. in 1987, and lived about 10 years there, moving to Blue Hill in 1997. Wherever she lived she was an active volunteer in local churches and other groups spearheading rummage sales, Christmas fairs, etc. She was an efficient, tireless and careful worker. Her hobby was creating decorative crafts of all kinds. She had an artist’s eye. Her daughter Janet Baumann and son-in-law, Andrew Peake, of Penobscot; her daughter-in-law, Rita Baumann of Danielsville, Pa.; and her son-in-law, David Winter of Monroe Township, N.J., survive her. Five grandchildren also survive her, Eric Winter, Megan Baumann, Phineas Peake, Alida Peake and Emily Peake. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred Baumann, in 1987; her son, Douglas Baumann; her daughter, Cindy Baumann Winter; her sister, Ruth Hawkins; and her brother, Roger McLachlan. Her ashes will be interred in Easton, Pa. A private memorial celebration is planned.
