HOULTON – Jean M. Larson, 79, died Feb. 9, 2005, at a local hospital. She was born Sept. 9, 1925, at Houlton, the only child of Frank Beverly and Jennie (Meagher) McLaughlin. Mrs. Larson was a graduate of Houlton High School and Ricker Junior College. She married Kenneth C. Larson in 1947 and was the owner/operator of the Broadway Record Shop and Pizza Palace, one of the first pizza shops in Houlton. She was a life long Democrat and served as a Sec-Treas of the Houlton Democratic Committee, the County Committee and Democratic State Committee. In 1985, Jean received the Senator George Mitchell Award for her work in the party. She was the first President of the Houlton Regional Hospital Auxiliary when the two local hospitals merged into one and she also served on the Houlton Regional Hospital Board. She served on the Houlton Town Council and as a member of the Maine Health System, State Hospital Auxiliary, State Health Coordinating Council, Commission on Government Ethics and Election Practices, a member of St. Mary’s Church, Houlton Council of Catholic Women and the diocesan Human Relations Services District V. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Kenneth; a son, Terrence; two grandchildren, Matthew and Stephanie Larson; their mother, Rae Anne Hutchinson; a sister-in-law, Dorene L. MacIlroy, all of Houlton; a nephew, Brian MacIlroy and his wife, Diane, of Largo, Fla. Friends may call at the Dunn Funeral Home, 10 a.m. Friday until the time of departure at 10:45 a.m. for St. Mary’s Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with the Rev. Eddy Morin and Deacon Al Burleigh celebrant. There will be a gathering of friends and family following the service at St. Anthony’s Hall.
