BANGOR – Jean Marie Parkhurst, 72, died Nov. 12, 2006, at a Bangor hospital. She was born May 13, 1934, in Millinocket, the daughter of Charles and Ellen (Atherton) Morgan. Jean grew up in Millinocket and graduated from Sterns High School. She excelled in basketball and played for a brief period for a semi-pro basketball team. She moved to Bangor with a special friend Jackie Jones to attend college. Jean worked at the telephone company for 10 years as an operator, until she gave birth to her first child. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed horseback riding and owned her own horse for some time. Jean was also an avid bowler. Her family was her life and she dearly loved her sons and grandchildren and will be sadly missed. She is survived by two sons, Scott Parkhurst and wife, Deborah, of Brewer and Steven Parkhurst of Bangor; two sisters, Joyce Robinson and husband, “Wiggie,” of Medway and Ruth Morgan of Woodville; three grandchildren, Ryan, Meghan and Jordan; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Paul Parkhurst in 1972; and by a brother, Charles Morgan. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a celebration of life will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, with the Rev. Peter Sprague, pastor of Columbia Street Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
