EDDINGTON and BANGOR- Jennie F. (Giles) Thompson, 86, died Dec. 19, 2005, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Theodore Thompson of East Eddington. She was born Oct. 5, 1919, in Sherman, the daughter of Stephen and Elizabeth Giles. She was a resident at Sunbury Retirement Village where she enjoyed activities and spending time with friends (especially at mealtime). Jennie was the owner and operator of a veteran retirement home for more than 20 years and at an earlier time, owner of a bakery. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and had the ability to make each one feel special and loved. She was loving, accepting, generous, always putting others first and had a great sense of humor. She loved life, family and friends. Her faith in the Lord was strong and real and she prayed daily for all her family and friends. She was a faithful and supportive member of Glad Tidings Church. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, handcrafts, entertaining, but most of all defeating her children at a game of scrabble, which she did! Jennie is predeceased by nine brothers, Cecil, Fertie, Frank, Floyd, Oakley, Wesley, Stanley and Charlie; seven sisters, Susie Smallwood, Lillian Horsman, Dora Hanson, Eva Esterbrook, Clara Dunsmore, and Ora Smith. She is also predeceased by her son, Paul Cyr; and granddaughter, Rachel Cyr Williams. Surviving are her two sons, David and wife, Becky, Philip and wife, Diane; four daughters, Evelyn and husband, Clint, Yvette and husband, Bob, Ruth and husband, Steve, Anne and husband, Lloyd; daughter-in-law, Susie Cyr; 23 grandchildren, 55 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild, three sisters-in-law, Iola Giles, Ruth Giles, Ethel Giles; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Eastern Maine Medical Center for their exceptional care. Friends are invited to visited with the family 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at the Brookings-Smith Funeral Home, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at Glad Tidings Church, 1033 Broadway, Bangor, with the Rev. Ron Morris, senior pastor, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments following the services Thursday at the church parish hall. Gifts in her memory may be sent to Glad Tidings Church. Spring interment will be in Meadowbrook Cemetery in Eddington.
