OLD ORCHARD BEACH – Jennie M. Mullins, 76, beloved mother and grandmother, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord March 23, 2007, at Coastal Manor, Yarmouth, after a brave battle with cancer. She was born April 24, 1930, in Meddybemps, to the late Charles W. and Jennie M. (Bailey) Gillespie. She attended the local grammar school and graduated from Calais High School. After her graduation, she studied cosmetology and later worked as a real estate broker in Bangor and Southern Maine areas with Century 21. Jennie particularly enjoyed her summers with family and friends at Branch Lake. She was an accomplished golfer who won a club championship at Penobscot Valley Country Club. She was a woman of many interests. She was an avid reader and a Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. Among her many talents, was her ability to knit many beautiful and functional items, which she gave to her family and needy children. After moving to southern Maine, she grew to love the ocean and her numerous walks along the beach. Jennie cultivated many long and lasting friendships, and was known to lend a helping hand to many people. However, her deepest love was for her family, which she took great pride in and cherished. Jennie was predeceased by her longtime companion, Bill McGowan. She is survived by three daughters and four sons, Beverly A. Wyse and her husband, Richard, of Cumberland, Barbara J. Whitten and her husband, William, of Yarmouth, Theresa M. Whitehouse and her husband, Kenny, of Bangor, Gregory M. Mullins and his wife, Debbie, of Brewer, Joseph H. Mullins and his wife, Audrey, of Bucksport, John T. Mullins and his wife, Sue, of Bangor and Christopher M. Mullins, of Saco. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A private service will be held.
