KENNEBUNK – Jessie “Jessica” G. Wood, formerly of Belfast and Zephyrhills, Fla., died in Kennebunk on October 16, 2003, at Bradford on the Common. She was born Dec. 18, 1908, in South Portland, the daughter of Herbert A. and Josie Lothrop Grindle. She attended schools in South Portland and North Penobscot. She lived in Belfast for 50 years, where she was a hairdresser and homemaker. She was active on the Altar Guild at St. Margaret’s Church and on the Board of Directors of the Girls Home in Belfast, later to become the Belfast House at Sweetser in Saco. She loved playing golf in the women’s league at Northport Golf Club. Jessica enjoyed traveling with her husband after his retirement to Hawaii, Europe, the western United States, and to their winter home in Florida. She was devoted to her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Norman E. Wood in 1993; her daughter, Rebecca Bradford and sister, Velva Larrabee. She leaves her daughter, Rhoda Frederick and husband, Eugene of Kennebunk; sister, Vera Currier of Ocean Park; five grandchildren, William and Linda Frederick of Sanford, Sandra Tillman of Kennebunk, Deborah Pelkey of Rockland, Susan Larsen of Gorham and Terrell and Lori Morse of Sedgwick. She also leaves eight great-grandchildren, George, Jessica, Ashley, Josh, Caleb, Jamie-Lynn, Brian and Elliot; two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces. A graveside service for family and friends will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at Grove Cemetery in Belfast.
