HAMPDEN and OLD TOWN – Jessie S. Boivin, 71, died peacefully at a Bangor hospital Feb. 6, 2006. She died of a cancer that took her life quickly. Jessie was born Oct. 4, 1934, in Bangor. Her loving parents were Randolph E. and Elizabeth M. (Smith) Ouellette. Jessie grew up on French Island and graduated from Old Town High School in 1952. The Class of “52” was very special to Jessie. To the day that she passed away members of her class of “52” visited and called daily. She was in touch with many as they planned trips, dinners and simple coffee outings. The highlight was always their reunion. At Old Town High School she was involved in every club and activity the school offered. A highlight of achievement was that in her junior year she was the Dirigo Girl’s State Representative in Washington, D.C. After graduation, Jessie attended the University of Maine at Orono. Once again she was involved with several clubs and activities, including the Sorority Delta Zeta, Women’s Student Government Association, Pi Kappa Delta, Debating Council and Prism Yearbook. Jessie wrote the class song “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” that will be celebrated at the “50th” U.M.O. class reunion this summer. She graduated in 1956, with distinction with a bachelor of science degree in education. She taught English in Jay, Brownville Junction and Old Town. In 1963, she earned her master’s degree in library sciences at which time she served as the librarian at Dow Air Force Base. In 1964, Jessie joined the Brewer school system as a librarian and became a fixture at Brewer High School for 30 years. Jessie retired in 1994, but never slowed down, involving herself in several activities and organizations. She was involved with Hampden Children’s Day, T.O.P.S. Club, Maine Alumni Association, Maine Association of Retirees, M.E.A and senior exercise group. She was always in the front pew at St. Matthews Catholic Church keeping Father Bob in line. Jessie’s passion was family and friends. She kept in touch the old fashion way, writing letters. Everyday she would write letters of life’s happenings to her family and friends. She never missed an important date, whether it was a birthday, anniversary or graduation. Her thank you notes would have made Hallmark proud. She is survived by two children, her son, Mark Boivin and his wife, Brenda, of Madison; and her daughter, Anne Vickers and her husband, Jamie, of Henniker, N.H.; grandchildren, Katie and Thomas Vickers; step-grandchildren, Erin, Lyndsi and Joshua Paine; one sister, Mary Lou Morin and her husband, Francis, of Old Town; four brothers, Frank Ouellette of Stoneham, Mass., Richard Ouellette and his wife, Olga, of Milford, Dennis Ouellette of Bangor and Stephen Ouellette and his wife, Diana, of Lincoln; one very special and treasured aunt, Marion Beaulieu of Bangor, many nieces, nephews, cousins and her special extended family, Sharon and Richard Newcomb, Vivian and Keith Gove and the Madore family. She was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Randy and Harold. Visiting hours will be held 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, at St. Matthews Catholic Church, 70 Western Ave., Hampden with the Rev. Robert Vailliancourt, pastor, celebrant. Interment in the springtime will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Old Town. Messages of condolence or memories may be shared through www.hampdengilpatrick.com.
