FRANKLIN and MANCHESTER, Conn. – Jessie Viola (Bowden) Joy died at Manchester Manor Nursing Home, in Manchester, Conn., Feb. 16, 2005, in her 90th year. She was born Sept. 24, 1915, in Franklin, the second child of Frederick Birchard and Agnes MacQueen (Robertson) Bowden. She was the wife of the late Nathan Sargent Joy whom she married in Bangor, Sept. 5, 1943. She was a graduate of Sullivan High School, Class of 1932. She studied at Farmington State Teachers College in Farmington, and was a graduate of Bixby Business School, St. Petersburg, Fla. Until her marriage she was employed by the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad. She is survived by two sons, Frederick Bowden Joy of Manchester, Conn., and the Rev. Charles Austin Joy and his wife, Faye, of Norfolk, Va.; four grandchildren, Charles Austin Joy Jr. of Richmond, Va., Holly Elaine (Joy) Connor and her husband, Richard, of Portland, Ore., Shelby Andrew Joy and his wife, Elizabeth, of Manchester, Conn., and Jordan Christian Joy of Manchester, Conn.; four great-grand-children, Aiden Nicholas Bowden Connor, Justus Benjamin Joy, Josiah Nathan Joy and Jonah Gabriel Joy; nieces and nephew, Ann Bowden Verissimo of North Sullivan, Christina Bowden of Cape Elizabeth, and Bruce Arthur Bowden of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Margaret F. Bowden of Englewood, Fla.; and a brother-in-law, Col. Austin Joy of Portland. Spring burial will be announced and then held at the family lot in Gordon Cemetery, North Sullivan.
