NEWPORT – Joan E. Holyoke, 70, died unexpectedly Sept. 16, 2004, at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born July 26, 1934, at Winterport, a daughter of Robert and Hope (Clark) Higgins. She graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1953. She was a past member of the Newport Women’s Club, and the Barrows-Skidgel Post American Legion Auxiliary. Joan owned and operated the Tent Village Campground in East Newport with her family for 34 years, retiring in 2002. In addition to her mother, Hope Adams of Frankfort, she is survived by her husband, Vernon E. Holyoke of Newport; two daughters, Terry Bryant and husband, Randy, of Newburgh, Hope Holyoke and her husband, Gerald Leighton, of Newport; two brothers, Robert Higgins of Hampden, Randolph Higgins and his wife, Susan, of Winterport; three grandchildren, Justin and Paige Doble, and Lucas Leighton; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Newport, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. George Darling officiating. A burial service for the family will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Oak Hill Cemetery, Winterport.
