BANGOR – Joan E. (LaForge) Hershey, 77, wife of the late Charles E. Hershey Jr., died June 12, 2005, after a brief illness. She was born Oct. 10, 1927, in Bangor, the daughter of L. Albert and Frances A. (Lowell) LaForge. Joan began her employment with New England Telephone Company as an operator, retiring after many years of service. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Surviving are three sons, Chris and his wife, Lynn Johnson, of Brewer, Tom and his wife, Cyndee Johnson, of Dover-Foxcroft, David Johnson of Bangor; five grandchildren, Tim Johnson, Jennifer Coombs and her husband, Joe, Carrie Johnson, Charles Johnson, Robert Johnson; a great- granddaughter, Leontine Coombs; two brothers, Lawrence LaForge of Portland, John LaForge of Harpswell; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Brewer; and a brother, James LaForge. The family would like to thank the staff of the Baxter Wing of Westgate Manor for the care and support of Joan. Graveside services for the family will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor.
