EXETER – George Elwell Hicks Sr., 84, the husband of Lillian (Batchel-der) Hicks, died June 12, 2005, at his residence. He was born Nov. 26, 1920, in Plymouth, the son of George and Ethel (Welch) Hicks. He was a graduate of Newport High School, Class of 1938. He was an Army veteran of World War II and worked in area Woolen Mills in his early years prior to being a self employed dairy farmer. Surviving in addition to his wife of 63 years are two daughters, Freda Sanborn and her friend, Richard Smith, of Exeter and Sharon Crawford and her husband, Robert, of Sherman; two sons, Elwell Jr. and his wife, Cynthia, and Terry and his friend, Jodi Price, all of Corinth; two brothers, Roscoe Hicks and Albert Hicks and his wife, Meredith, all of Detroit; 11 grandchildren, LeAnn, Michelle, Sandy, Sherry, Bobby, Tony, Brooks, Blaine, Heidi, Carrie and Sarah; several great- grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Elwell was predeceased by a sister, Melva Smith; and a brother, Rodney. Friends may call Wednesday from 1 p.m. until time of funeral services at 2 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home, 17 Hudson Road, Corinth, with the Rev. Cynthia Nickerson, officiating. Burial will be in the Corinthian Cemetery, Corinth.
