BANGOR and CORINNA Jo-Ann Denise (Newcomb) Knowlton, 48, died April 28, 2004, after a long illness. She was born June 26, 1955, at Hartland, a daughter of Harold and Mildred (Allard) Newcomb. She attended schools in Corinna and Newport, graduating from Nokomis Regional High, Class of 1973. After graduation, she worked for the state of Maine as a secretary and clerk/stenographer. In 1979 she moved to Florida, and in 1981 moved to New Hampshire. During those years while taking care of her two young daughters, and an often away at work husband, she worked as a typographer. Jo-Ann’s work ethic, her fast, accurate typing skills, and the homemade baked goods made late into the night and then shared, won the hearts of her friends and co-workers. In 1989, Jo-Ann returned to Maine with her family as a full time homemaker and home schoolteacher for her daughter. In addition to her mother of Corinna, she is survived by her husband of 27 years, Richard, and their two daughters, Danielle and Jessica, all of Belgrade; her sister, Linda Carmichael; and brother, Harold Newcomb, both of St. Albans; a number of nieces, nephews and dear friends. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Newport. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 1, at the funeral home.
