BLUE HILL – Joanne Estella Grindle, 75, died March 30, 2005, at the Penobscot Nursing Home in Penobscot. She was predeceased by her husband, Merle B. Grindle Jr. in 1994; brother Reynold Arthur Grammer Jr. in 2005; and her niece Margaret Grammer-Vallejos in 1989. She is survived by her children, Nancy (Paul) Hamman, Jane (William) Shaughnessy, Charles (Tracy) Waehler; step-sons, Merle B. Grindle III and Mark Andrew Grindle; her grandchildren, Shaun, Corey, Kailee, Casey, Andrei, Arthur and Sage; a sister-in-law, Vernie Grammer; niece Elizabeth (Philip) Marshall; nephews, Ren (Karen Kronauer) Ganner and Charles (Michele) Grammar. Mrs. Grindle grew up in Newtonville, Mass., and was a 1951 graduate of Boston University, College of Music. She played the piano for her own personal enjoyment and gave lessons to young beginners in her community. As a youngster she summered in Maine and made her home there at the time of her second marriage. An avid painter she enjoyed capturing on canvas the animals, flowers and scenes of Maine. She loved relaxing watching a football game while knitting a sweater for a family member. Joanne was also well known for her homemade holiday cookies. A service of remembrance will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, April 23, 2005, at the South Blue Hill Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the South Blue Hill Cemetery. Contributions in Joanne’s memory may be made to a Scholarship Fund for Joanne Grindle at the Kneisel Hall School, Box 648, Blue Hill Maine 04614.
