LEVANT – An unparalleled artist, exceptional mother, and beautiful wife, Joannie Lundy was also a gardener in both the literal and metaphoric senses. She cultured and nurtured those around her with homegrown concoctions assembled with the eye and heart of an artist, in the kitchen and garden of her Levant home. For those lucky enough to have visited her home, her creative presence left a lasting impression, one manifested in the palette of colors that decorated her house and characterized her boundless vision. That vision included the original knits and cards that she designed and distributed as well as Material Comforts, the Orono-based clothing store that she ran for many years. For those who did not know her, her incomparable, unmistakable style was easily witnessed on any given afternoon, navigating the piles of knits and housewares in local stores, dressed in layers of colorful wools and with silver bracelets ringing. After a yearlong battle with cancer, Joannie died as she lived, surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her own home, May 8, 2007. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Mark Lundy; and her two sons, Noah Lundy and Zeth Lundy. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at the First United Methodist Church, 703 Essex St., Bangor. A reception will be held after at the home of Gary and Jackie Grant, 80 Roundstone Dr., Glenburn. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to CancerCare of Maine, Health Care Charities, P.O. Box 931, Bangor, ME 04402-0931.
