DOVER-FOXCROFT – John “Bud” R.C. Byron, 71, passed away July 28, 2006, with his three children by his side, from complications after a courageous battle with lung cancer, at a local hospital. He was born Sept. 3, 1934, in Norwich, Conn., the son of John B. and Doris (Gardiner) Byron. He worked for many years at Pratt and Whitney as a tool and die maker in Connecticut, prior to moving with his family to Maine in 1971. He worked at several local mills, and retired from Fayscott. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to be on the water in his canoe. He was a member of the Penobscot Paddle and Chowder Society and also the Maine Association of Canoe and Kayak Racing Organization. He leaves behind two daughters, Catherine Kolashuk and her husband, Greg, of Dover-Foxcroft, Debbi Byron and her special friend, Steve Dunn, of Bangor; a son, John C. Byron and his wife, Angel, of Dover-Foxcroft; six grandchildren, Megan (Kolashuk) Young of Dover-Foxcroft, Susan Kolashuk) Thibeau of Montrose, Colo., Tara (Carmichael) Floyd of Sorrento, Amy Carmichael of Dover-Foxcroft, Josie Byron of Dover-Foxcroft; and a stepgrandson, Bradley Pingree of Corinth; seven great-grandchildren, Zachary Carmichael, Justin Emery, Ethan Carmichael, Elizabeth Hatch, Ashley Pelotte, Kelsy and Darian Young. He will be remembered fondly by his caring companion, Mary Smith, formerly of Bangor, now residing in Dover-Foxcroft; his sister, Jane Simko of Falmouth, Mass.; his good friend and bowman, Kevin McEwan of Bradford; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog, Little Guy. He was predeceased by his precious wife of 45 years, Vallie (Hobbs) in 2000; and a great-grandchild, Kyle Emery. Arrangements will be announced at a later date by the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft.
