HODGE, La. – John E. Hall, 90, died Monday, June 20, 2005, in Ruston, La. after a brief illness. He was born in 1914, in Melrose, Mass. After graduating high school in Somerville, Mass. and attending Bowdoin College in Brunswick, he went to work for Advance Bag & Paper Co., in Howland in 1935. He moved with the paper mill to Hodge, La., in 1938 and married his wife of 59 years, Harriet Woodsum in 1939. He served in the Army during World War II spending most of his tour in China. John retired from Continental Can Co., in Hodge in 1997 after 41 years of service. After retirement, John worked many years for Edmonds Funeral Home in Jonesboro, La. He was a member of the Jonesboro United Methodist Church and was an avid golfer. John also loved to return to Maine each summer and enjoyed his lake house. He is survived by a brother-in-law, Bernard Baird and wife, Catherine, of Turner; sister-in-law, Ruth Woodsum of Veazie; nieces, Diane Woodsum Peva and husband, James, of Surry, Gretchen Decau and husband, Richard, of Morristown, N.J.; and special friend, Ann Shows of Jonesboro, La. He was predeceased by his wife, Harriet Woodsum Hall in 1998. Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Thursday, June 23, 2005, at Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel in Jonesboro, La., with the Rev. Roy Bryan Moore, and the Rev. Bill Strawbridge officiating. Visitation was held 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2005, at Edmonds Funeral Home. Burial will be 2 p.m. Monday, June 27, 2005, at Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor, with the Rev. Clayton Blackstone, pastor of the Bangor Advent Christian Church, officiating. A service of Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor.
