EASTPORT – John Edward Wilson, 85, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at Calais Regional Hospital. John was born Dec. 22, 1922, in Eastport, son of the late Burton and Blanche (Spear) Wilson. After graduating from Shead High School, he entered the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II, taking part in the D-Day Invasion. On Feb. 2, 1947, he married Frances “Billy” Spear. John worked for 20 years with the Mearl Corp., was a hand line fisherman and worked for various fish factories. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by three sisters, Elizabeth, Beatrice and Evelyn; and a brother, Reid. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Frances “Billy” Wilson; a daughter, Irene Rogers and her husband, Skip, of Dennysville; a sister, Blanche McNutt of Eastport; a grandson, Chris Stevens of Cutler; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and his feline companions, Beauty and Punk. Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at Mays Funeral Home – Flagg Chapel, 72 High St., Eastport. A funeral service will be held 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
