LAMOINE – John Edward Maguire, 68, passed away April 7, 2005 at a Mount Desert Island hospital. He was born Dec. 8, 1936, in Oak Park, Ill., the son of Thomas A. and Margaret (Lawson) Maguire. He was educated at the University of Notre Dame for four years graduating in 1958 with a bachelor of arts in arts, political science and language. He also attended the University Of Laval, Quebec, Canada and received a master’s degree in French. Jack was active in the U.S. Navy for 12 years, 1958-1971. He served in the Vietnam war as a Naval Aviator. He then served in the Naval reserves retiring as a commander. He was appointed to the Maine Coast Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees in 1984, chairman of the board from 1989-1991 and became honorary trustee for life in 1992. Jack worked in the banking industry in Maine as well as in Idaho. He most recently worked in real estate with Morgan Bayside Real Estate, Inc. of Ellsworth. He was active in many organizations including; American Bankers Association for 20 years, Executive Board of the Hancock County Planning Commission, Rotary, Ducks Unlimited, Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce, a 42 year member of the Elks Lodge No. 2743, Eastern Maine Development Corporation for eight years, lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and American Legion Post No. 63 all of Ellsworth. Jack was also an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was an officer and founder of Open Door Recovery Center. He is survived by two sons, Scott D. Vaught and wife, Carol, of Dalhart, Texas, J. Patrick Maguire and wife, Karen, of Ellsworth; four daughters, Victoria A. Maguire of Grand Rapids, Mich., Teresa M. Morrissee and husband, Scott, of Rye, N.H., Christina J. Maguire-Harding and husband, Timothy, of Lamoine, Margaret “Brumbi” Maguire-Grant and husband, Roger, of Ellsworth; 10 grandchildren, Jessica, Jenee, Ashley, Jacob, Hailey, Conor, Fallon, Hanna, Nicholas and Cameron; two brothers, Thomas and David Maguire of Wisconsin. He will be missed by special friends, Phil Phillips, Ralph and Mary Miro. He was predeceased by his wife, A. Jenee Maguire in 1996. Box 25, Ellsworth, ME 04605. Friends are invited to call from 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2005, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, with a Rosary prayed at 6:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 231 Main St., Ellsworth, with Father Scott Mower as celebrant. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
