BLANCHARD SEARSPORT – Mildred “Mid” Marr Blanchard, 82, died unexpectedly March 31, 2005, at her home in Searsport. She was born July 5, 1922, in Fort Sheridan, Ill., daughter of Emma Mildred (Bowen) Marr and Colonel Harold E. Marr. Growing up as an “Army brat” she lived in numerous parts of the country, but always considered Searsport her home. Mid graduated from Oak Grove in Vassalboro. She attended the University of Maine and earned a bachelor of science degree from Wheelock College. She taught school in Providence, R.I. up until her marriage to her childhood sweetheart, Charlie, in 1947. Upon her husband’s retirement she and her family returned to their Searsport homestead where she became an active member in the community, volunteering her time at Carver Memorial Library and Searsport District School Library. She also served as a trustee for Mosman Memorial Park. Mid was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be fondly remembered by her family and friends for her caring, her love of animals, her sense of humor, her ability to accept life on it’s own terms and her ongoing support of her husband with his countless projects. Mid is survived by her son, Nick Blanchard and his wife, Corinne (Seekins) Blanchard, of Searsport; her daughter, Nancy Blanchard of Gorham; two grandchildren, Andy Blanchard and Andrea Blanchard of Searsport; several nieces, nephews, and many special friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Charlie Blanchard; a brother, Colonel Harold E. Marr Jr. and his wife, Mary Marr; a brother-in-law, Scott Blanchard Jr.; sister-in-law, Aileen Blanchard. A graveside service will be held for family and friends in June at the Elmwood Cemetery, Searsport, at a time to be announced by the Young Funeral Home, 31 West Main St., Searsport. In recognition of her dedication to the community, donations in her memory may be made to the Carver Memorial Library, P.O. Box 439, Searsport, Maine 04974.
