ASHLAND – John G. Poiraw Sr., 67, died April 11, 2007, at a Presque Isle hospital. He was born May 18, 1939, in Ashland, son of Andrew and Celia (O’Clair) Poitraw. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator in the lumber industry for many years. John was an Army veteran and a member of the VFW LeBlanc-Junkins Post No. 9699, Ashland. He is survived by two sons, John Poitraw Jr. and his companion, Sue Leach, of Sheridan and Joseph Poitraw of California; three daughters, Sherry Hitchcock and her husband, Todd, of Presque Isle, Peggy Collins of Bangor and Stacy Moir and her husband, Allen, of Woodland; one stepdaughter, Jamie Cyr and her husband, Dave, of China; one brother, Roland Poitraw of Ashland; three sisters, Clairette Hebert of East Hartford, Conn., Dorothy Willette and Ellen Boulier, both of Sheridan; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by special friends and caregivers, Galen Campbell, Jerry Giggey, Gary Burby and Sue Leach. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at the VFW Hall, Ashland. Interment will be at Masardis Municipal Cemetery later this spring. Those who wish may contribute in his memory to the Ashland Public Library.
