GLENBURN – John Gary Anderson, 66, was born Dec. 10, 1940, in Island Falls, the son of John and Madeline (Ireland) Anderson. John “The Hermit” of Pushaw Lake, died March 11, 2007, at his residence. He loved the outdoors and water, keeping vigil over nature’s many inhabitants; deer, ducks, whooping cranes and squirrels. Dad taught his children and granddaughters the art of fishing at Dudley Brook and the joy of picking fiddleheads. Last summer he taught Isabella to drive his four-wheeler, and they had a blast. He was always striving for the big one in his favorite places, like Squaw Pan Lake and any river that flowed, with his high school buddies, Waldo and Jimmy. Dad and his friend, Dan, took a fishing trip to the last Frontier in Alaska. He especially enjoyed playing cards and acting out with the gang at Pushaw Lake. All who had known him will miss his boisterous laugh. Dad was a SP4 E4 in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam, Germany, and Washington State. He is survived by his daughter, Sylva Jo Horn and her husband, Audie, of Island Falls; granddaughters, Clarissa Gallagher of Stacyville and Isabella Baker of Lisbon; stepdaughter, Chevala Dawn of Hermon; daughter-in-law, Brenda Anderson of Island Falls; brothers, Paul, Bill, Bob, and Mike, and their wives; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Also lifelong friends, Waldo and his wife, Adrienne McDonald, of Bucksport, Dan, “Sis,” Wayne and his four-legged friend, Roosevelt. He was predeceased by his parents and one son, Jonathan Lee Anderson, in 2004. In keeping with Dad’s request, no services will be held. Friends and family may call 1-3 p.m. Sunday, March 18, at his daughter’s home, 96 Houlton Road, Island Falls. Given his love for animals, all those who wish may donate in John’s name to their local humane society or VFW. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls.
