BUCKSPORT – John L. Gray, 87, passed away peacefully Dec. 24 2006, at home. He was born Feb. 28, 1919, in Orland, the son of Linwood H. and Isadora (Saunders) Gray. John served in World War II in the U.S. Army, 7th Armored Division, during campaigns in France, Belgium and Germany. After serving his country, John worked as a papermaker at St. Regis paper mill, Bucksport, for more than 40 years, where he was well liked by his coworkers. He enjoyed horseshoe throwing, bowling, camping, travel, and in recent years, playing cards with family and friends. John had a great sense of humor, always wore a smile and was easy to be around. He is survived by his loving wife, Muriel (Saunders Arey) Gray of Bucksport; two daughters, Judy Arey and husband, Richard, of Bucksport and Barbara Dorr and husband, Isaac, of Bucksport; one son, John Gray and Julia Clark of Orland; one stepson, Don Arey and wife, Linda, of Brewer; two sisters, Avis Barker of Orland and Alayne and husband, Harold Perkins, of Bucksport; nine grandchildren, David Gray, Debora Casamassina, Wendy Gray, Jeff Arey, Ike Dorr, Lori Dorr, Christopher Gray, Matthew Gray and Eddie Arey; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Madeline Goupee-Gray; his brother, Robert; and his son, Michael Gray of Swanville. The family thanks Tammie and the caring staff of New Hope Hospice. Friends may call 12:30-2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, at Mitchell Tweedie Funeral Home, Bucksport, with funeral services held immediately after with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Orland.
