NEWBURGH – Hattie Mae (Wilson) Toothaker, 88, wife of the late Charles “Alton” Toothaker Sr., passed away Dec. 24, 2006, with her family at her side at a Bangor health care facility. Hattie was born Dec. 28, 1917, in Kenduskeag. Hattie was a graduate of Hampden Academy, Class of 1936. She lived in Newburgh most of her life, where she and her husband ran Wilson’s Store, on the Kennebec Road, for many years. She later worked for Hampden Evans Shoe Co. and Viner Shoe Co. Hattie enjoyed gardening, search and find word puzzles, cooking, knitting and working around her home. She will be remembered as a loving and kind wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Hattie is survived by two daughters, Lillian Mayhew and her husband, Elden, of Newburgh and Janice E. Shaw of Hampden, 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of almost 61 years, “Alton” in 1998; by a daughter, Charlene Perkins in 1999; and by a son, Charles Alton “Chuck” Tooth-aker Jr. in 1995. A graveside service will be held at Chapman Cemetery, Newburgh, at a date and time to be announced in the springtime.
