BREWER – John “Mike” Maurice Cluff, 86, died June 15, 2007, at a Bangor health care facility. Mike was born Dec. 15, 1920, in Brewer, the son of Harold and Laura (Couturier) Cluff. Mike graduated from Bangor High School, then enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mike was stationed to the Atlantic Ocean, escorting convoys and then to the Pacific Ocean. As a U.S. Navy reservist, he was called to serve during the Korean War. Mike graduated from the University of Maine in Orono in 1957, with a mechanical engineering degree, and then went on to receive his master’s degree in business administration from Boston University. Mike worked as a mechanical engineer for C.H. Dexter, Windsor Locks, Conn., for many years. Mike later became a consultant for the pulp and paper industry, traveling to Scotland and Japan. Mike enjoyed his family, his grandchildren’s nickname “Gumpy,” woodworking, golf and time spent at camp with his son and friends from Vinalhaven. Mike was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Brewer. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Ruth (Drew) Cluff of Brewer; a son, John M. Cluff Jr. and wife, Judy, of Eddington; his grandchildren, Michael Cluff and wife, Holly, Andrew Cluff and wife, Donna, Lindsey and Ashley Cluff, Jennifer Cluff Medrano and husband, Miguel, Lori Troiano-Spillane and husband, Jim, Mark Troiano and wife, Molly; great-grand-children, Shane, Kameron, Hope, Miguel, Connor, Jonathan, Taylor and Skylar; special daughter-in-law, Mary (Simpson) Cluff; and loving dog, Elmo. Mike was predeceased by a daughter, Jeanne Marie (Cluff) Troiano; and a brother and two sisters. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 18, at Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, with the Rev. Dr. George Curtis III, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Brewer, and Pastor Carl Sch-reiber, pastor of East Orrington Congregational Church, officiating.
