ETNA – John R. Parlee III, 60, passed away peacefully Sept. 27, 2006, with his loving family by his side after a long illness. He was born Jan. 8, 1946, in Bangor, the son of John and Anna (Welch) Parlee Jr. He graduated from John Bapst High School, Class of 1964. John worked for Bangor Pipe and Supply until 2001, when he retired due to his illness. He was active in the Bangor Little League, where he umpired for many years, a hobby that he loved. John also enjoyed reading, watching baseball games on television, playing cards and bingo. He especially enjoyed the numerous happy hours he spent with his grandsons, Cody and Carter as they played and rode around in his motorized wheelchair. He was a very kind, thoughtful, loving person who always was there for his family. Surviving are his wife, Martha (Mitchell) Parlee of Etna; his mother, Anna Parlee of Brewer; children, Marjorie Parlee and her companion, Harry Marcyn, of Ellsworth, John Steve Parlee and his fiance, Elizabeth Furrow, of Bangor, Wade Parlee of Colorado, Barbara Rice and her husband, Craig, of Etna; one brother, Wayne Parlee and wife, Debbie, of Pretty Marsh; six very special grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Katie and Taylor Parlee of Empire, Colo., Cody and Carter Rice of Etna, Lindsey and Victoria Hand and their father, Gary Hand Jr., of Etna; a niece, Jenny Baker and her husband, Sean, and their children, Lillian and Emelia, of Hampden; and nephew, Mark of Pretty Marsh. He was a very special brother-in-law to Ginny Fitts; and friend to many others; several aunts and uncles. John was predeceased by his father, John R. Parlee Jr. in 1982; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Barbara Mitchell. The family would like to thank the nurses at St. Joseph Hospital, who cared for John during his illness, and Kelly from respiratory for her beautiful songs that she sang for John. A special thank you to Dr. Susan O’Connor, Irene, Dr. Tally, Pastor Vasha and all who supported his family during their difficult time. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Etna Four Square Gospel Church, Route 143, Etna, with Pastor L. Vasha Piermont officiating. There will be a gathering for family and friends at Martha and John’s home after the service. A service of Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor.
