LITTLE DEER ISLE – John Russell Jr., 81, died Jan. 3, 2008, at a Blue Hill hospital. He was born Aug. 15, 1926, in Summit, N.J., the son of John and Louise (Grant) Russell Sr. John was an Army veteran serving during World War II. He worked as a safety engineer at Public Service Electric and Gas Co., New Jersey, and later in his life worked locally as “Russell the Printer.” He also taught at Boggy Brook Technical Center and throughout his life worked doing what he loved, as a beekeeper. He was a member of Marine Lodge No. 122 AF & AM, Harbor View No. 136 Order of Eastern Star and National Grand Chapter, and Deer Isle Grange No. 296, all of Deer Isle and Stonington. He was also a member of the Tri County Bee Keepers. He is survived by his wife, Florence “Eleanor” Russell of Little Deer Isle; one son, John Russell III and his wife, Kayline, of Verona Island; two grandchildren, Nathan and Adrion Russell, both of Verona Island; one niece, Barbetta Vickery of North Carolina. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Brown. A memorial service will be celebrated 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Ston-ington, with Milton Haskell, elder of Community of Christ Church of Deer Isle, officiating. Friends may call 1 p.m. until time of service. Spring interment will be at Howard Hill Cemetery, Deer Isle. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the services at Marine Lodge No. 122 Masonic Hall, Deer Isle.
