LUBEC – John S. Denbow, 89, passed away at a Lubec nursing home July 16, 2004. He was born Jan. 21, 1915, in Lubec, the sixth of 14 children to John W. and Cecilia (Small) Denbow. John, or “Johnnie” as most people knew him, loved being outdoors. He was a great hunter, was known for being a good ball player, a darn good horse shoe player, and loved to see how high he could pole vault (reaching a personal record height of 10 feet). Following school John moved to Connecticut where he worked for more than 30 years at the iron foundry in New Haven, Conn. He is survived by two brothers, Basil and Maurice; three sisters, Mildred, Madeline and Corrine; and step grandchildren who he loved very much. He was predeceased by his wife, Anne Denbow; three step children, Irene Kinney, William Cassidy Jr. and Mavis Cioffi; seven sisters; one brother. Visiting hours will be 6-7 p.m. Monday, July 19, at the Christian Temple Church in Lubec, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2004, with Pastor Gary Look officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery, Lubec. Arrangements are in care of McClure Family Funeral Services, Lubec.
