BREMEN – John T. Conley Jr., 79, died Monday June 21, 2004, at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta. He was born Dec. 4, 1924, in South Portland, a son of John and Grace Dewar Conley. He was a graduate of Cape Elizabeth High School in the class of 1943. He graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in Castine in 1944. He married Jean Dennison in 1948. In 1951, he graduated from the University of Maine at Orono as a mechanical engineer. He worked for Westinghouse from 1951 to 1953, a shipyard in South Portland from 1953 to 1955, and started work at GTE Sylvania in Waldoboro in 1955. John became plant manager in Waldoboro in 1959. In 1978, he became plant manager of GTE Sylvania in Costa Rica, Puerto Rico and Juarez, Mexico, all while still running the plant in Waldoboro. John retired in 1986. He loved to boat, hunt, and coach Little League and Babe Ruth baseball. He was a member of the Waldoboro Lions Club. He was predeceased by a brother, William Conley. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jean Dennison Conley of Bremen; two sons, John David Conley of Old Orchard Beach, Mark Conley of Raymond; daughter, Anne Conley of Thomaston; brother, James Conley of Brewer; sister, Betty Brooks of Winthrop; grandchildren, Zachary John Conley of Raymond, Jake Lewis of Raymond; nieces and nephews. A time of visitation will be held 12 noon-2 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 27, at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. The Rev. Robert Dorr will officiate. Burial will follow in the German Cemetery in Waldoboro. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, NE Division, 1 Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
