CORINNA – John W. Bird, 87, died Dec. 22, 2004, at a Pittsfield hospital. He was born Aug. 16, 1917, at Castle Hill, a son of Louis and Mabel (Webber) Bird. John graduated from Corinna Union Academy and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On Sept. 1, 1940, he married the former Alice Thurston. He was a past commander of the Corinna American Legion, a member of Parian Lodge AF & AM, Corinna, and attended the Corinna United Methodist Church. John will be remembered as the Town Manager for Corinna for more than 30 years. In addition to his wife of 64 years, he is survived by a brother, William Bird of Plymouth; two sisters, Pauline Jude of Orrington, and Kathleen “Jody” Leavitt of Corinna; a brother-in-law and wife, Stewart and Greta Thurston of Caribou; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, John Stewart Bird in 1957. There will be no visiting hours. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, December 27th, at the Corinna United Methodist Church with the Revs. Sharon Lovejoy and Bruce Hudson officiating. Spring burial will be in the Corinna Village Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Corinna Ambulance Service, care of Corinna Town Office, 8 Levi Stewart Drive, Corinna, ME 04928.
