OLD TOWN – John W. Foster, 87, died Nov. 16, 2006, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Sept. 17, 1919, in Detroit, the son of Howard L. and Bernice (Dwinnells) Foster. He was a 1937 graduate of Royal Oak High School, Royal Oak, Mich., and a 1939 graduate of Culver Military Academy, Culver, Iowa. He was a World War II veteran having served with the Army Air Force. John was employed for 27 years at the University of Maine retiring in 1981. He is survived by two sisters, Shirley Buer of Rockford, Mich., and Barbara Widolf of Reseda, Calif.; and a nephew, James Quebbeman of Ann Arbor, Mich. He will be dearly missed by close friends, Bob and Priscilla Foley, Dora Penney and Dave Prygrocki. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Rita M. Foster in 1994. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. Monday until time of service at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where a funeral service will be conducted 10 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Wilfred Labbe officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Orono.
