PRESQUE ISLE – Lora Craig Libby, 88, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006, at her residence. She was born Aug. 27, 1918, in Presque Isle, the daughter of Loren and Maude (Edwards) Craig. Lora graduated from Presque Isle High School and attended Aroostook State Normal School for a year before convincing her father that she wanted to be a hairstylist. After becoming a licensed cosmetologist, she spent a few years working in Boston, hopping on the train in the fall and returning to her parents’ farm in the spring. After marrying Larry Libby she worked for Jenson’s Beauty Shop, Presque Isle, until she opened her own salon in 1954. She loved working as a hairstylist and many of her customers became dear friends. She finally closed Lora’s Beauty Shop in the fall of 1997. Lora was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Smith and her husband, Milton, of Presque Isle; a grandson, Derik Smith and his wife, Ellyn; two great-grandchildren, Erik and Adelle Smith, all of Presque Isle; several nieces and nephews; including a special nephew, Loren Ritchie of Greenville. She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Libby; three brothers, Clyde, Ivan, and Ruel Craig; and four sisters, Erla Keirstead, Evelyn Crouse, Irene MacPherson and Rita Ritchie. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Johnson Cemetery, Presque Isle. Donations, for the purchase of large print or audio books, may be made in her memory to the Mark and Emily Turner Memorial Library, 39 Second St., Presque Isle, ME 04769.
