AUBURN and BREWER – John W. McEwen II, 57, formerly from Brewer, died Dec. 6, 2007, with his children at his side at a Lewiston hospital, after a short illness. John was born in Bangor, the son of John and Mariam (Dyer) McEwen. He graduated from Brewer High School, where he was captain of the football team. He later went on to graduate from the University of Maine. John’s fondest memories surround the 20 years he spent living on Sebago Lake with his family and friends, spending time on the beach, boating and in the winter skating on the canals. John also had a passion for sports, history and world events. John is survived by his two daughters, Margo Peffer and her husband, Curt, of Gorham and Morgan McEwen of Waltham, Mass.; two brothers, Russell McEwen and his wife, Myrna, of Brewer and Maynard “Bud” McEwen and his wife, Jane, of Presque Isle; one grandson, Cabot Peffer; his former wife, Jane McEwen; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held noon Monday, Dec. 10, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, with the Rev. Clayton Blackstone, pastor of Bangor Advent Christian Church, officiating. Friends may call 11 a.m. until the time of service Monday. Interment will be later at Franklin Cemetery.
