STOCKTON SPRINGS – John Walter Corrigan, 63, of this community, died peacefully, April 1, 2006, surrounded by his loving family, at Maine Medical Center, Portland, from complications due to cancer. He was born Sept. 13, 1942, in Houlton, the son of Ralph J. and Audrey (Davis) Corrigan. He was raised in Augusta and graduated from Cony High School in 1961. There he played baseball, basketball, and was a class officer and a popular student. John graduated from Maine Central Institute, Pittsfield, in 1962. While at MCI, he was a member of the basketball team. In 1966, John earned a bachelor of science degree in business management from Husson College. He was a member of Phi Kappa Delta fraternity and the Husson baseball team. While a student at Husson he met his future wife, Connie. Their 40th wedding anniversary would have been celebrated June 25, 2006. Prior to his retirement, he was a partner and treasurer of O’Connor GMC-Buick, Augusta. In 1983 and 1984, he was recognized for his business achievements and listed in Who’s Who in America and Business Leaders of America. An avid golfer, he was a past member of Augusta Country Club and currently a member of The Majors Golf Club in Bayside Lakes, Palm Bay, Fla., where he and his beloved wife wintered. He especially enjoyed playing various courses throughout New England and Canada with his daughter and son. He loved to fish and kayak and enjoyed spending time at his family cottage on Togue Pond in Baxter State Park. He enjoyed oil painting, drawing and making wooden toys for underprivileged children. His most precious moments were spending time with his family and granddaughters. While his children were growing up, he coached his son’s little league baseball team and umpired his daughter’s softball games. Recently his joy was teaching his granddaughters to fish, golf, kayak and play T-ball. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Connie of Stockton Springs; daughter, Kelli of Portland; son, John R. and his wife, Lisa, of Presque Isle; and granddaughters, Delaney and Audrey, also of Presque Isle; his father-in-law, George Dumont and wife, Monique, of Scarborough; his sister-in-law, Susan Bengston and her husband, John, of Ridgefield, Conn.; brother-in-law, Dr. Richard Dumont and his wife, Nancy, of Pickens, S.C.; brother-in-law, David Dumont and his wife, Nancy, of Sidney; an aunt, Margaret Corrigan of Millinocket; several nieces, nephews and cousins. John will be greatly missed as a husband, father, grandfather and good friend to many. Visiting hours are 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Western Avenue, Augusta. Honorary pallbearers are: Peter McPheters, John Boddy, Richard Boddy, Frank Loiko, Paul MacDonald, Keith McBurnie and Eugene Richardson. Burial will be at a later date.
