OLD TOWN – John William McPhail Jr., 46, went to be with the Lord, Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Miami, the son of John Sr. and Carolyn (Moore) McPhail. John married Marie Pietrowski Dec. 21, 1985, and together they have raised two daughters. John served our community as a firefighter with the Old Town Fire Department for seven years, and as a deacon of the United Baptist Church. He was also active with Maine handicap skiing, sled hockey for handicapped adults and the Christian service brigade. John served as a member of the Airport Advisory Committee and the oncology support foundation. John was an outdoorsman who enjoyed kayaking, bee keeping, downhill skiing, fishing, gardening, flying, hockey and camping. Most importantly, he enjoyed his family. Sundays were family days, where John, his wife and daughters spent time worshiping with their church family. John and his family extend their deepest gratitude to the Old Town Fire Department and the members of Old Town United Baptist Church for their kindness and generosity during John’s battle. John is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Marie McPhail; daughters, Katherine and Kristina McPhail; parents, John and Carolyn McPhail; brothers, Mike McPhail and his wife, Claudia, and Steve McPhail; several nieces and nephews; an especially faithful friend, Doug Hill; and his entire church family.
